It was first introduced in 1975 by Glamorise Foundations, Inc. as the “Free Swing Tennis Bra.” However, the true breakthrough came in 1977 with the invention of the general exercise bra, later known as the “jogbra” or “jockbra”. The inventors of the sports bra—Lisa Lindahl, Polly Smith, and Hinda Miller—were inducted into the US National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2022.
