Practical life is an important component of the Montessori curriculum, especially for toddlers and preschoolers. Montessori observed that children greatly enjoyed being involved in the activities of everyday life such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry, and did not view it as a chore. She noticed that practical life activities also build hand strength, coordination, and reasoning that are important for writing and other later academic skills.
